GPS

GPS for Mariners is a modern learning experience that focuses on the handheld GPS unit. This program is the result of an exciting synergy between the textbook's publisher, the book's author and the Auxiliary.

The program involves loaning each participant one of the Auxiliary's units for the duration of the program, increasing interactivity of the educational experience and getting participants more involved.  Class size is limited to the number of handheld units we have on hand.  Currently that number is ten.

GPS for Mariners is a three day program that teaches the participant the fundamentals of GPS.

The participant will learn about:
The satellite configuration and how their position in space affects the accuracy of your unit on the water.
Buttons
Screens
Menus
How to perform basic navigation with GPS
Waypoints
Routes
Staying on course
and
Relating GPS to charts

The fundamentals of this program will enable the participant to use any GPS unit for practical recreational boating.
